BREAKING NEWS ABOUT UPCOMING MEETINGS
The Cajal Club takes pleasure in announcing their next International Meeting, entitled "Camillo Golgi and Modern Neuroscience". The meeting will take place at the Department of Experimental Medicine, Section of General Pathology “Camillo Golgi”, Palazzo Botta, University of Pavia, Italy. The dates will be Tuesday, September 29 – Thursday, October 1, 2009.
The symposium is sponsored by the Cajal Club in collaboration with the University of Pavia, the home institution of Camillo Golgi. It follows the international celebrations of the 100 year anniversary of the Nobel Prize to Golgi and Cajal in 2006. It will be a unique event, honoring Golgi's great discoveries of the Golgi method and the Golgi apparatus, celebrating the awarding of the Nobel Prize to Rita Levi-Montalcini, and presenting cutting edge research on the nerve cell and nerve cell networks. Through this meeting, the great traditions of Golgi and Cajal will finally be merged, and new insights will be given into the full significance of each to modern neuroscience.
The meeting will be organized around three themes. One will involve neuron types in the cerebellum, olfactory bulb, hippocampus and cerebral cortex. Another will include Golgi’s additional contributions such as the Golgi apparatus. A third theme will involve new cellular imaging methods and physiological approaches. The Cajal Club will also honor Rita Levi-Montalcini with a Wendell Krieg Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Pinckney J Harman Memorial Lecture will be given by Giacomo Rizzolatti from Parma, Italy.
