Krieg Cortical Kudos Awards

The Kreig Cortical Kudos prizes are awarded annually. There are three levels of the KCK awards: Discoverer, Explorer, and Scholar. Nominations are now open. The deadline for nominations is August 14, 2020. Please note that nominators and nominees do not need to be members of the Cajal Club.

Call for Nominations for the Krieg Cortical Kudos for 2020

The Cajal Club is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the thirty-fourth annual KRIEG CORTICAL KUDOS. These awards are given to recognize outstanding Neuroscientists and doctoral students who are investigating the cerebral cortex and/or its connections. The Awards are funded by generous donations from Dr. Wendell J. Krieg, a distinguished neuroanatomist and the first President of the Cajal Club, and his wife, Roberta Krieg. The Officers and Board Members of the Cajal Club will act as the Award Panel for the selection of winners. The following categories of prizes will be awarded at the Cajal Club Social at the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in Washington, DC in October, 2020.

I. The Cortical Discoverer prize will be awarded to a senior Neuroscientist who has substantially contributed to our knowledge of the cerebral cortex and/or its connections. The Award includes receipt of the Cajal medal, an inscribed certificate and $5,000, plus $250 in support of travel expenses. The winner is encouraged to submit an article for publication in Cerebral Cortex.

Nominations of candidates for the Cortical Discoverer Award should be submitted by e-mail and should include the following: (1) A letter of nomination. (2) A copy of the candidate¹s curriculum vitae. (3) PDF files of up to three publications of the candidate¹s research on the cerebral cortex and/or its connections. Additional letters of support of the nomination are also welcome. Nominations made in 2018 and 2019 can be re-submitted if they were not submitted in 2017.

II. The Cortical Explorer prize will be awarded to an outstanding Neuroscientist investigating the cerebral cortex and/or its connections. The candidate should have received an advanced professional degree within the ten year period prior to the time of nomination. The Award includes an inscribed certificate and $3,000, plus support for travel expenses as indicated above.

Nominations of candidates for the Cortical Explorer Award should be submitted by e-mail and should include the following: (1) A letter of nomination. (2) A copy of the candidate¹s curriculum vitae that includes the date on which the candidate received an advanced professional degree. (3) PDF files of up to two publications of the candidate¹s research on the cerebral cortex and/or its connections. Additional letters of support of the nomination are also welcome.

III. The Cortical Scholar prize will be awarded to an outstanding predoctoral neuroscientist or one who has received the doctoral degree no later than 2 years prior to the closing date for nominations (August 14, 2020). The candidate should have conducted exemplary research on the cerebral cortex and/or its connections. The Award includes an inscribed certificate and $1,500, plus support for travel.

Nominations of candidates for the Cortical Scholar Award should be submitted by e-mail and should include the following: (1) A letter of nomination. (2) A copy of the candidate¹s curriculum vitae that includes the date of receipt of the doctoral degree (or the anticipated date, in the case of predoctoral candidates). (3) PDF files of up to two publications of the candidate¹s research on the cerebral cortex and/or its connections. The candidate should be the primary author of these articles. Additional letters of support of the nomination are also welcome.
