Development of the Cerebral Cortex: from Embryos to Organoids Social
October 6, 2024
McCormick Place, Society of Neuroscience
Annual Conference Sponsored Social, Chicago, IL
Chair: Paola Arlotta
Co-Chairs: Leah Krubitzer
Date & Time: Sunday, October 6, 6:45–8:45 p.m.
Location: MCP Room N139
Guests: Debby Silver, Aparna Bhaduri, Tomasz Nowakowski, Pasko Rakic, Larry Swanson, John Rubenstein, Leah krubitzer, Liqun Luo, Hongkui Zeng, Nenad Sestan
Much remains unknown about the development of the cerebral cortex, and whether this orchestrated process can be studied outside the the embryo, within brain organoids, stem cell-derived experimental avatars of the developing brain. This social will provide an opportunity for interested scientists to gather in an informal, social setting. 5–6 experts in the field will be invited as a way to allow trainees and colleagues from other areas of neuroscience to mingle and share ideas.

2024 Brain Cell Types, Circuits and Disorders Conference
August 19 to August 21, 2024
UC Irvine, Irvine, CA
The UCI Center for Neural Circuit Mapping (CNCM) and the Cajal Club cordially invite interested parties to the upcoming in-person conference titled “Brain Cell Types, Circuits and Disorders.” This event is highlighted in the attached conference flyer and marks a significant collaboration between these prestigious organizations.
The primary conference activities are scheduled to take place at the Beckman Center of the National Academies of Sciences & Engineering, which is located near the UCI campus. Additionally, specialized events, including workshops and boot camps on spatial transcriptomics and viral vectors, will be hosted on the UCI campus.
Following the success of previous in-person conferences, the UCI Center for Neural Circuit Mapping is committed to organizing annual events focusing on neural circuits. The 2024 conference aims to be a leading gathering in the field, featuring thought leaders in neuroscience. These experts will offer invaluable insights into integrating various aspects of neural circuits, encompassing structure, function, development, and disease. Please visit the webpage for details on the distinguished speaker lineup and further conference information.
Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts for consideration. Selected abstracts will be featured in short talks or poster presentations and included in the conference program book.
CORTICAL EVOLUTION
JUNE 21-23, 2023
Burgos, Spain
The Cortical Evolution symposium will promote the dissemination of novel ideas and concepts underlying evolution of the mammalian and primate cerebral cortex. The goal of this conference is to further our understanding of the factors involved in cortical evolution that are relevant for human brain function under normal and pathological conditions. Experts from prestigious research universities in the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia will present their most recent findings at the meeting. 200 faculty and students are expected to attend, and all attendees will have the opportunity to present their work in poster format. In addition, six abstracts will be selected for a short oral presentation. The meeting will be organized into 5 sessions, with each session dedicated to the following topics: Paleoanthropology Cortical Development Cortical Expansion Evolution of cellular types Evolution of Cortex and Behavior.
2023 CONFERENCE, STRUCTURE, FUNCTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEURAL CIRCUITS
